“There is a land called Crete, at the sea, which is like wine. It is very rich, surrounded by sea, very beautiful. It has ninety cities, countless people live on it and they speak a mix of many languages. Crete raises Acheans, real Cretan men with brave hearts, Dorians, who live in three tribes, Kydons and noble Pelasgians”.

Iolida Beach Hotel is a modern hotel complex in the heart of Agía Marína, one of the most popular coastal resorts of the region of Chania in western Crete. The hotel welcomes you to a world of discreet luxury and beauty with it’s 139 elegant and spacious studios and apartments which have been gracefully decorated in earth and sky colours. Rooms are exceptionally comfortable, bright and airy, and each one has its own balcony or veranda.
The long sandy beaches and crystal clear waters make Agia Marina an ideal holiday location for young and the maybe not so young. There is a good choice of restaurants, cafes, shops and supermarkets, and there is even more to be found at the lively close-by resort of Platanias. For a more traditional view of Cretan life just above Agia Marina is the old village of Pano Agia Marina.
There is a frequent bus service to Chania, the region’s capital city that is only 10km from the hotel. It is a bustling town with a cosmopolitan atmosphere where the Venetian harbour is a sight to behold with little fishing boats bobbing up and down on the water in the eastern side, while the waterfront on the western side has an abundance of cafes and restaurants ranging from local to chic. Narrow, picturesque and characteristic streets with a splendid array of shops, boutiques, small cafes and tavernas lead off behind the waterfront. Theotokopoulou St. is one not to be missed with its characteristic Venetian buildings and ornate balconies. A visit to Chania should be near the top of any list of things to see and do whilst in the area.
There is easy access to the national road which runs along the north coast and makes the location an excellent starting point for further exploration of western Crete as you drive through stunning scenery and head towards the mountains passing time-trodden villages, or perhaps drive to some of the wonderful more well-known sandy beaches such as Falassarna or Elafonissi on the west coast. The area lends itself to archaeological interest, walking, cycling, diving, or perhaps you just want to laze away the days by the pool or on the wonderful sandy beach in front of the hotel.
The hotel was opened in 2002 and extensions were completed in 2009. Elegant architecture mixes modern and traditional elements as it blends harmoniously with the surrounding landscape. Facilities spread over an area of 9000m². Apart from the hotel accommodation, the northern complex has the reception, the main restaurant, a bar with billiards, a swimming pool and a children’s pool, and a specially designed playground right next to the sandy beach of the hotel. The impressive glass walkway leads you to the southern part of the complex comprising an a la carte restaurant, a bar, another swimming pool with a children’s section, a conference hall with a capacity of up to 350 persons, an underground parking space for 40 vehicles, a lending library, a specially adapted games room, a luggage room, and a first-aid room.
All rooms are equipped with modern comforts such as air conditioning, satellite TV, internet access, a safe and a hairdryer to name but a few. To ensure a good night’s sleep, the rooms have double glazed windows. Bathrooms are modern with designer amenities. Room service is available.
All ground-floor rooms are accessible to enabled guests. Iolida Beach also features ramps to facilitate the comfortable access of enabled people and their carers to all corners of the hotel. Please note that pools have access by a ladder, not walk in steps.
It is the perfect accommodation for couples and families looking for relaxation in a serene atmosphere.
